L’oreal Buys Carol’s Daughter

Twenty years ago Lisa Price began concocting fragrances and lotions in her kitchen in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn. It did not take long before Price, who is now 52, began to develop a loyal following of customers. As she grew on the coattails of her most beloved products such as Mimosa Hair Honey, her client base expanded to include even celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Jay Z, Halle Berry and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Price says of her early days in business, “I used to joke, ‘When I go on Oprah’ or ‘When Oprah calls”™ and then it actually happened.”

Cosmetics powerhouse L’oreal announced its intentions to buy the company, but Price will remain the ‘face’ of Carol’s Daughter, continuing to run the daily operations. Price has lived in the same house in Bed-Stuy for the past 18 years, and has three children. She says she will keep testing and developing new products, but now she has the added advantage of a giant corporation behind her, not only for financial backing, but also for distribution through L’oreals global network.

“This is the end of part one and the beginning of part two and part three,” Price said.
